Delete your Matchboks account

You can delete your Matchboks account and all associated personal data at any time. This page explains exactly how to do it, what gets deleted, and what happens next. You do not need to contact us to delete your account. The fastest route is the in-app flow below, but we also support deletion by email if you no longer have access to the app.

Option 1: Delete from inside the app (recommended)

This is the fastest way. Deletion is immediate and you receive a confirmation email.

  1. Open the Matchboks app on iOS or Android.
  2. Sign in to the account you want to delete.
  3. Go to Settings → scroll to the bottom → Delete Account.
  4. Re-type your email to confirm you are the owner, then tap Delete Account.
  5. Confirm one more time on the warning dialog. Your account is then deleted.

Option 2: Request deletion by email

If you cannot access the app (for example, you have uninstalled it, your device is lost, or you are locked out), email us and we will process the deletion manually.

Send an email to hei@matchboks.no from the email address registered to your Matchboks account. Please include:

  • A subject line of "Delete my Matchboks account".
  • A confirmation in the body that you want your account and data permanently deleted.
  • Optional: a short reason (helps us improve the product, but not required).

We verify every deletion request to make sure we are deleting the account of the person actually asking. If we cannot verify from the email address alone, we may ask one additional verification question. We respond within 30 days, usually the same day, and send a confirmation email once deletion is complete.

What happens when your account is deleted

Permanently removed

  • Your candidate or company profile (name, photo, bio, CV, skills, experience, education, certifications, languages, honest description fields).
  • Your account record (email, phone, password hash, role, preferences).
  • All swipe history, saved profiles, matches, and bookmarks tied to your account.
  • Messages you sent in matched conversations. Copies in other users' inboxes are anonymized. Your name is replaced with "Deleted user".
  • Job applications you submitted as a candidate, or candidate applications to jobs you own as a company.
  • CV files, logos, and any other files you uploaded.
  • Push notification tokens, session tokens, and stored credentials.

Retained for legal and safety reasons

  • Financial records required by Norwegian bookkeeping law are retained for 5 years in a restricted archive, separately from the live database.
  • If your account was closed for violating our Terms of Service, a minimal record (account ID, deletion reason) is kept so the same person cannot immediately re-register and repeat the abuse.
  • Anonymized, aggregated statistics that can no longer identify you may be retained indefinitely.

How long it takes

In-app deletion is immediate. Database and file storage cleanup completes within 24 hours. Backups are rotated out within 30 days. Email requests are processed within 30 days, usually the same day.

Can I recover a deleted account?

No. Deletion is permanent. We intentionally do not keep a recovery window for the things that get deleted. If you think you might want to come back later, consider signing out rather than deleting.
